Update…..

So Bella went to the vet last Friday and had her wound looked at. Everything looked fine however they needed to drain her because she had a couple of fluid pockets. They re-wrapped her and said so far everything was looking great.

Today I took her back for her weekly check up and her wrap came off and stitches came out!!!!! The vet was amazed at how well she has healed after her surgery. I got the run down of keeping it clean (She still cant have a bath till next Friday) and making sure she keeps on her pain meds. Bella thought a reward would be to go into the neiabors yard and roll around….lol They have real grass and down here that is a rare thing.

We took her to the dog park to just walk around seeing as how Bella is not a very out going dog. She doesn’t seem to like the larger dogs but didn’t mind the lil ones in the small area. I am hoping now that she has healed a great deal we can get her out and about more.

I am having her eyes checked next week because she doesn’t seem to see that well. My son will be walking up to us and she growls and barks until he gets close enough for her to smell. Even at the vets office the vet tech, which she adores and has since day one, she growled until she smelt his hand. Then of course he got smothered with kisses.

I guess it is a learning process to everything that is wrong with her as she came from an abused home.

The only concern the vet has was getting her one good front leg more in shape. Right now she is bow-legged when walking. She doesn’t have the strength to walk much and still gets very tired fast. We are going to start walking a lil each night after it cools off. First starting off with a block then slowly moving our way to more.
But I think she would rather just chill on the sofa then anything…..lol

My oldest son had his 15th bday Sunday and of course he wanted me to take pics of him and Bella. So he thought since they had a “bday” so close together they could both enjoy the party.

She is coming out of her shell lil by lil. She wags her tail more and still has a smile when I come home. Amazenly for her being a dog that was kept outside her whole life, she has yet to have one accident in the house. She whines around the house and that is her saying “I gots to go mom!”.
She has learned to go up the stairs and the down part is still in training. She is a bit scared and prefers to be carried. I am looking into getting her the harness here to help her with her walking and getting up and down. Since I drive a SUV, she has to be picked up and put in. I think the harness will do her wonders 🙂

Glad to hear Miss Bella is healing AND dealing well! That’s a lot of changes to go through all at once, and yet they manage to get through it like the troopers that they are.

If you’re considering a harness, depending on what size Bella is, we are probably going to offer up Rio’s harness since we rarely use it. She’s a rear-legger and it’s easier for both of us if I just lift her hiney as she jumps with her front legs. It’s a size Medium Ruffwear Webmaster in stunning Red!

Thank you! I think it is ruffer on me then her. When she gets off the sofa she whimpers and it just about kills me. But its her favorite place to lay so I try to pick her up and put her down as much as I can so she wont try and jump.
Bella is 47 pounds so I am not sure what size that would be. But of course any help would be thankful!

I love the birthday picture where the flash sparkles on the pawty hat! It makes Bella and your son look magical! So happy she’s doing well and finding her place in your family! She is truly a rags-to-riches story!

Thank you Shari! I was happy to take them. When we first got her Chico was a bit unsure about her. He didnt want to get too close to have something happen and lose her. Plus he was unsure how to handle her as she was scared and very very shy. So he pretty much stayed away for a while. But as her traits are showing and the major moves on ehr part of sneaking onto his bed at night they have grown very close. It amazes me to watch Bella learn that this is her own home and forever it will be.
